چکیده
An experimental and clinical study on DI-22, a fat emulsion for intravenous use and the first such product to be developed in Japan is present. DI-22 consists of linoleic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid and linoleic acid which is made isotonic with glycerol. The size of the fat particles are 0.8-1.0 in diameter and are uniform in shape. The fluctuation of hemoglobin and hematocrit was the same as that of Intralipid and no anemia was observed. The triglyceride curve also was the same as Intralipid with neither increase nor accumulation of the product. No remarkable changes were noted in the phospholipid values and plasma fat elimination from the blood stream was found to be very satisfactory when given at a speed of 40 drops per minute. The side effects were very mild with nausea noted in one case, phlebitis in one case and a

A FEBRILE response to intravenous fat emulsion is the most frequent untoward side effect following short-term infusions. Though this side effect is probably not now common or severe enough to limit the clinical usefulness of intravenous fat emulsion, an understanding of its mechanism is important. One hypothesis offered is that the fever is a result of rapid metabolism of the infused fat with t...

AN ADEQUATE amount of food is important in order to maintain a patient in the best possible condition to stand such strains as disease or trauma of different kinds (infections, burn, surgery, etc.). If oral feeding is impossible the nutrients have to be given in some other way. The two possibilities available are tube feeding and intravenous nutrition. The intravenous route is employed when tub...
متن کاملUse of a fish oil-based lipid emulsion to treat essential fatty acid deficiency in a soy allergic patient receiving parenteral nutrition.
The treatment of essential fatty acid deficiency (EFAD) in a 17-year-old male following allogeneic bone marrow transplantation is described. His transplant was complicated by gastrointestinal bleeding that precluded the use of enteral feedings. Due to a severe soy allergy, he could not tolerate any intravenous fat emulsions marketed in the US. After months of receiving fat-free parenteral nutri...

The development of intravenous fat emulsion (IVFE) is the culmination of physiological, biochemical, nutritional, and medical scientific advancements. IVFEs have the ability to deliver critical nutritional substrates to the patient. Recent literature purports that they may also play roles in modulation of immune functionality and pulmonary physiology, but data supporting these potential benefit...
